The Dorchester WIBN for July had an interesting mix of professional skills and an definite theme shared by several of the attendees. Four mentioned they had either relocated to the area or ceased to base their working life in London so clearly this is Poundbury’s gain as this Group attracts professional categories where corporate experience and expertise is available locally.

The Chair Dawn Palmer welcomed visitor Jennifer Adams from Naldrett Accountants - a very busy lady who, along with running two offices, has published books. Good to meet you, Jennifer!

We were treated to a vibrant overview of the beautiful Neal’s Yard products and how this ethical company are continuing to develop remedies not only for skin and wellbeing but for household too. As a new member, it was a wonderful introduction for Sue Adams to share what she finds so enthusiastic about. From the ‘no nasties’ formula and locally based business to how she can offer quality items in various ways to suit her customers.  We look forward to sampling more next time, Sue, and it was no surprise several purchases were made on the day.

It is always good to ‘send a sub’ if you are not able to be there and this month, there were two new faces. Representing The Commercial Law Practice was Didem Altiun who specialises in residential property; she was certainly keen to meet new faces having opted to move to the area. New to her role and taking the place of Emma Friendship-Kilburn of Emm-Power Ltd was Laura Edwards. With her background in marketing and PA skills, we are sure she will be tremendous asset to this growing business.

Representing Helen Light of HSBC was Bev McPheat, who as a business banking manager is always happy to ‘stand in’ for her colleague. A recent scenario where having had the opportunity to spend time with a customer and build a sound business case, she was able to help him obtain a loan for a much needed van which had been declined previously. ,

With her usual calm style, Family Mediator Tara Knight gave a clear idea of how this can help to resolve situations particularly when children are involved, and having the ability to help people come to a mutually agreed outcome without the need for more ‘heavy handed’ legal procedures.

As a mentor too at Blueberry Mortgages Vicky Parker enjoys being able to help build their advisor teams and offers clients mortgage solutions. Again, communication is key to how they are able to support applications from first time buyers to most aspects of property purchase.

Making herself ‘stay put for a while,’ Laura Pennington of Not Just Travel is able to draw on her vast knowledge of her own travels backed by a long list of providers to make anything from a holiday of a lifetime to a mini break a memorable experience.

With her specialism in people and a wealth of all manner of training ideas Motivaction Amanda Cookson is a management consultant who understands what it is to commute to the City and brings her enthusiastic corporate approach at an affordable and very beneficial rate.

Exciting times ahead for the Bliss Food Co Outside Caterers Sally Poole and her colleague Lou Condie, as ‘one half of the duo’ these ladies have brought their passion for cooking to the tables of many events and news of their forthcoming restaurant opening totally proves how having the ability to set a goal and make it happen works.

The two hours had ‘flown by’ as remarked by one of the ladies. Well time does indeed fly when you are having fun!
